Appellate Oral Advocacy CLE

Honorable Magistrate Judge Gilbert C. Sison, Ms. Sarah Schrup, and Mr. David Hemingway will conduct a 1-hour panel discussion on Appellate Oral Advocacy beginning at 2:30. In addition to his duties on the bench, Judge Sison has taught Appellate Advocacy and coached the moot court team at Washington University School of Law. Ms. Sarah Schrup is the Circuit Executive for the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals and was previously the founder and director of Northwestern University School of Law’s Appellate Advocacy Center. Mr. David Hemingway is a seasoned appellate attorney at the Federal Public Defender for the Eastern District of Missouri with extensive experience in federal and state courts.
At 3:30, Ms. Julie Morian and Ms. Angela Hill, Assistant Federal Defenders for the Southern District of Illinois, will give a brief presentation regarding the possible use of Judiciary Sentencing Information (JSIN) in PSR’s and sentencing advocacy. Thereafter, the SDIL CJA panel members will continue the conversation with questions and comments about topics of interest to the District in 2022.
